Marketplace coverage also known as the affordable care act is Health insurance through private insurance companies designed to meet the government requirements for minimum essential care, which consists of prescription drug coverage, pre-existing condition coverage, mental health, maternity and more... These plans are best suited for individuals or families who are not offered other creditable coverage, the government issues "tax credits/subsidy" to help cover the cost of the insurance. Depends on the policy and coverage amount. Generally its a good idea to do the exam because the insurance may be more expensive without one. This helps you also get a better rate for healthy individuals. Every policy will have health questions and some policies are “simplified underwriting” meaning no exam is required but are generally more expensive.

1. Group Plans are for full-time employees of a business
2. Full-Time is defined as working at least 30 hours/week
3. A minimum of two employees, owners are included must enroll in the coverage.
4. A husband and wife generally cout as one employee, there must at least be one other employee enrolling.
5. The plan must be offered to all Full-time employees. Eligible employees may decline the plan with a signed acknowledgement -two employees (owners included) must enroll.
6. The employee must pay a minimum of 50% of each employee’s premium. Depenedent are not a requirement.

Short Term Medical plans also referred to as Short- Term Limited-Duration insurance. These plans are designed as health coverage for a limited time when longer term insurance isn’t available to you. You can apply for coverage for as little as 30 days and under current law up to 3 years. These plans do have health underwriting and pre-existing conditions are not covered. They usually are PPO plans and are a great alterative for people looking for alternative coverage outside the ACA. (Always talk to a licensed professional before applying).

In short, neither one is better than the other. It depends on the person, their situation and budget. Medicare supplements (Medigap) is a great option for people looking for ultimate flexibility, freedom and have serious health concerns. Note you will have additional premium on top of Medicare for your Medigap policy and would still need to purchase a Part D plan and any dental, vision hearing as well. Medicare advantage (Part C) is very smiliar to group insurance. You typically have HMO/PPOs, co pays for different services but everything is bundled into one policy such as drug coverage and other services which vary based on plan such as dental, vision, hearing. They typically have no to very Low additional cost to join on top of your Medicare Part B premium. In short, the coverage between them work differently. If the employer group has 20 or more employees and is considered creditable coverage, delaying part B is an option. Although there is a lot to consider and you should always at least check to see what kind of coverage Medicare offers. Always check with your benefits administrator to see if you are required to sign up for Medicare. If you have Veteran benefits you generally should sign up for Part B. Not doing so may delay your coverage and also tack on a late enrollment penalty. Their are special designed medicare policies for Veterans who use the VA that would offer some generous benefits. If you have tri-care you typically do need to sign up for Part B but may not need to apply for an additional medicare policy. If you already are receiving social security benefits, you’ll automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B. They will send a letter a few months before you’re elgible. If you don’t get social security benefits and are not ready to apply for them yet, you should sign up three months before your 65th birthday. The easiest way is by applying online through social securities website www.ssa.gov/benefits/medicare/ or by calling them directly at 1-800-772-1213.
